With the tractor and the semi-trailer, the length of the<br \/>\nentire unit exceeded 39 meters while the height reached 4.5 m.<\/p>\n<p>The unusual transport undertaking started in the<br \/>\nTri-City and finished in southern Sweden &#8211; in the very centre of Malm\u00f6. It<br \/>\ninvolved delivering the cargo first to Swinoujscie, then the footbridge was<br \/>\nsuccessfully carried by ferry to Trelleborg, to finally reach where it was to<br \/>\nbe installed. In total, nearly 700 km to cover.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" src=\"..\/..\/www\/upload\/21\/df\/9c\/b29c5ac16f7d2490e9ffc5bd1ba804e7.jpg\" alt=\"scandinavian express\" width=\"450\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The vehicle chosen for this non-standard transport<br \/>\nproject was a 6&#215;4 FH16 Volvo tractor, 660 horse power, with a gross unit weight<br \/>\nof 120 tonnes. The load was placed on a 6-axle Nooteboom semi-trailer equipped<br \/>\nwith an extended deck, hydraulic suspension and an axle steering system. It can<br \/>\nbe extended to the maximum length of almost 42 meters, although this time the<br \/>\nextra length of 16 meters was sufficient.<\/p>\n<p>The obstacles encountered on the route included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0toll<br \/>\ngates at the A1 motorway, which were partially dismantled to allow the easy<br \/>\npassage of cargo;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>roundabouts<br \/>\nwhich required very precise maneuvers in the opposite direction to the traffic<br \/>\n(on the left side, against the traffic flow);<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>a<br \/>\nrailway bridge in Jastrowie (national road 22) &#8211; slow and careful passage under<br \/>\nthe bridge due to just centimeters of space separating the load from the top of<br \/>\nthe bridge structure;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>tight<br \/>\njunctions in smaller towns the passage through which required the trailer axles<br \/>\nto be remotely controlled;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Swinoujscie<br \/>\nport area, where the harbor structures and the supports for footbridges created<br \/>\nmany obstacles. In many situations, the margin of space was a hair&#8217;s breadth;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>the<br \/>\nferry exit ramp in Trelleborg &#8211; leaving the ferry at 90 degrees to the left<br \/>\nwith a load of such length required meticulous precision from both the driver<br \/>\nand the pilot crew;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>passing<br \/>\nthrough the suburbs of Malm\u00f6 to reach the very center of the city &#8211; this<br \/>\ninvolved going round many roundabouts (which had to be passed in the opposite<br \/>\ndirection to the flow of traffic) and intersections (full of traffic islands<br \/>\nand lights), which also had to be managed at an angle of 90 degrees;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>positioning<br \/>\nthe transport unit for unloading &#8211; driving onto the middle of an intersection,<br \/>\nreversing at an angle of 90 degrees and backing towards the place of unloading.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The efforts to overcome all the most difficult moments<br \/>\nand obstacles on the route can be seen in a short video report prepared by a<br \/>\ncrew that accompanied the Scandinavian<br \/>\nExpress team on the entire length of the route.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8Vi2BVY0pmc\" width=\"500\" height=\"315\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The fully assembled steel footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists was more than 33 meters in length, nearly 6.5 meters in width and weighed 48 tonnes.
